Ponte Caldelas is one of the municipalities of Galicia that, since the XIX century, has experienced the phenomenon of emigration to Brazil in a particular way. On the other side of the Atlantic, a considerable number of emigrants managed to obtain small fortunes that became visible in their place of origin through unique and innovative architecture, which brought to Galicia elements totally alien to the vernacular architecture. A century after their construction, the Indiana houses are a valuable and irreplaceable cultural heritage that we must preserve as a symbol of a unique historical period.
